PERSONAL INFORMATION OF MILLICENT KYEREMA
Millicent Kyerema hails from Bormah, a village near Tepa in the Ashanti region of Ghana, and was born in June 1985, but lost both parents and lived with other relatives before moving to Kumasi to start a trade at an early age. She couldn’t complete Junior High School, she had to drop out after JSS1 because of financial difficulties. She then moved to Krofrom (CPC), and rented an apartment for herself, her daughter, and her niece. One evening after work, as she tried covering her goods with plastic, she felt dizzy and sat down to recover from the dizziness. All of a sudden she started feeling a sharp pain in one arm. The pain later affected her other arm. Some friends assisted her to the SDA hospital. And on the way the pain became unbearable as she felt it rising to her shoulders. At the hospital her condition was diagnosed as diabetes, which she did not have before. A few days after being hospitalized, her arm developed some blisters, and later started going bad. The doctors referred her to Okomfo Anokye Teaching Hospital, and within one month, her arms had to be amputated to save her life. She said she lost both arms in 2016.
Since 2016 she has not been able to trade again, and is supported by her church (Church of Christ) and other well-wishers. She is assisted by her daughter, a second year SSS day student and a young niece. She is a single parent. She says her marriage hit the rocks just three months after the birth of her daughter. GFB had the reason to support her to secure functional hand prosthetics and we are determined to raise fund to get it, and we are happy to say that she has also been among the beneficiaries of Galaxy Family Basket Christmas outreach program. We are happy bringing happiness and hope to families.
