Vertigo is a sensation of spinning or dizziness, often due to problems in the inner ear or the brain's vestibular system that controls balance. Symptoms can include a feeling of tilting or swaying, nausea, vomiting, and difficulty walking or standing. Causes may include benign paroxysmal positional vertigo (BPPV), labyrinthitis (inflammation of the inner ear), vestibular migraine, or Meniere's disease. Diagnosis involves a medical history, physical examination, and possibly imaging tests. Treatment depends on the underlying cause and may include maneuvers to reposition inner ear crystals (for BPPV), medication for symptoms relief, vestibular rehabilitation exercises, and lifestyle modifications to manage triggers.
